With its elongated proportions and mannered stance with arms upraised, the author of the present bronze appears to have been influenced by the work of Benvenuto Cellini such as his Mercury, Ganymede or Narcissus (all Museo Nazionale, Florence; illustrated in J. Pope-Hennessy, Cellini, London, 1985, pls. 112, 129 and 132).
