A FINELY CARVED 'LION' TIANHUANG SEAL
QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY
The rectangular seal is of square cross-section with well-polished sides, surmounted by a finial in the form of a recumbent lion with large snout and curly mane. The base is incised with four characters in seal script, Bingyu Zhuren. The stone is of a rich honey tone.

The inscription on the current seal possibly refers to Prince Yixi (1722-1778), or Hong Xiao, nephew of the Yongzheng Emperor, whose style name is Bingyu Zhuren. Prince Yixi was known to be an erudite scholar, poet and book collector.
