AN INSCRIBED WHITE JADE MELON-FORM PEBBLE
QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY
The pebble is smoothly carved in melon shape entwined with interlacing vines and serrated leaves. It is inscribed on one side with a poem, signed Chunhe Zhuren and followed by an oval seal which reads Chunhe. The stone is of an even white tone with concentrated areas of russet skin.

Chunhe Zhuren, 'Dweller in Spring Harmony', is the hall name of Yunli (1697-1743), the seventeenth son of the Kangxi Emperor and a trusted younger brother of the Yongzheng Emperor who was known to have been an eminent calligrapher and painter.
