The present miniature derives from a large-scale portrait by Giovanni Battista Lampi, painted in 1794. Another variant in miniature, by Alois Gustav Rockstuhl, signed and dated 1865, is inscribed on the reverse denoting that the original by Lampi, now in the Hermitage, St Petersburg, was once in the possession of Prince Gorchakov, Minister of Foreign Affairs, St Petersburg.
