The long poetic inscription praises the beauty of the depicted fish swimming through the waves and amongst the reeds. The two iron-red seal marks refer to the artist Deng Bishan (1874-1930), one of the 'Zhu shan ba you', 'Eight Friends of Pearl Mountain', who is renowned for his fish paintings.
