The scene is taken from an episode during the Trojan Wars where Patrocles persuades Achilles to allow him to return to battle wearing Achilles' armour. During the battle Priam's son Hector thinking he is fighting Achilles, kills Petrocles and after stripping him of his armour discovers his mistake. Overwhelmed by the death of his beloved Petrocles, Achilles determines to avenge his death and seeks Hector in battle. He meets Hector and slays him. Priam successfully begs for the return of the battered body of his son and he is able to give him a hero's funeral.

With grateful thanks to Dr. Claudia Wagner F.S.A. for her help in the identification of the gem
