A PAIR OF RARE BLUE AND WHITE 'DRAGON' VASES, GANLANPING
QIANLONG/JIAQING PERIOD (1736-1820)
Each vase has an oviform body that tapers towards the somewhat waisted neck and the foot, and is decorated with two dragons, one descending from below a ruyi border at the flared rim and coiling around the neck amidst clouds and flames to confront the other shown rising from a band of wind-tossed waves.

A related Jiaqing-marked blue and white vase, of different shape, which has similar dragons and clouds between ruyi and wave borders, is in the Palace Museum, Beijing, and is illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum - 36 - Blue and White Porcelain with Underglazed Red (III), Hong Kong, 2000, p. 157, no. 143.
