A PAIR OF LARGE GILT-LACQUERED BRONZE FIGURES OF BUDDHA
MING DYNASTY, 16TH/17TH CENTURY
Each is shown seated in dhyanasana, one with hands in dhyana mudra, the other with right hand in bhumisparsa mudra. Both are dressed in loose robes, with lotus-scroll incised borders, left open at the chest exposing a wan emblem. The hair is dressed in pointed curls surrounding an usnisa. Each is covered in a rich layer of gilding over a red lacquer ground.
