Château Montrose--Vintage 1970
Saint-Estèphe, 2me cru classé
Five slightly corroded capsules. Seven slightly bin-soiled labels, five bin-soiled labels. Two slightly damaged labels, one damaged. Levels: three top-shoulder, three upper-shoulder, one mid-upper shoulder, one mid-shoulder, one mid-low shoulder, three low-shoulder
Tasting Note: The sort of vintage to suit Montrose. In its early days, even in the 1980s intensely deep and packed. Rich, mouthfilling, massive - glorious but very tannic. Most recently: deep, excellent colour; sweet and 'broad'; distinctly sweet on the palate, still tannic. A good '70. Last tasted Sept 2005 *** Drink soon. M.B.
