The panel is inlaid with various hardstones to depict an ensemble of scholars' objects on one side including a cong-shaped vase containing flowers, a spinach jade brush pot with implements, a jade carp group, two flower pots in various shapes with flowers, all on wood stands and reserved on an ochre lacquer ground. The reverse side is also inlaid with hardstones to form a picture comprising bamboo, narcissus and ducks on rocks. The screen is set into a zitan base carved on the aprons with deer in a field with rocks and pine trees, flanked by spandrels carved in the form of a pair of conjoined lion heads with agape mouths, supported on cabriole feet.
