T'ing Yin-Yung pointed out that, "in order for a painting to stand and be appreciated on its own, it has to three qualities, namely individuality, temporality and nationality." After being inspired by Western modern art, T'ing re-examined traditional Chinese art: by integrating Fauvism and the freehand water-and-ink style, his paintings exhibit explicit emotion and exuberant performance, like the impassion visible in Denouncement of Cao Cao (Lot 2208) and the untold resentment in Woman and Parrot (Lot 2209).
