A PAIR OF BLUE AND WHITE 'BAJIXIANG' VASES
19TH CENTURY
Each vase is finely painted around the globular body with lotus blooms borne on leafy stems. The shoulders are decorated with The Eight Buddhist Emblems, baxijiang, suspended from ribbons. The neck is divided into three bands, two enclosing stylised floral scrolls and the third at the top, enclosing crashing waves, which is repeated at the gently splayed foot. The sides are applied with moulded monster-mask handles. The bases are painted with apocryphal Qianlong underglaze blue six-character seal marks.
18½ in. (47 cm.) high (2)
