FINE WINES FROM AROUND THE WORLD
Christie's is pleased to offer a selection of wines from a magnificent east coast cellar, with all proceeds being donated to Dartmouth College. The consignor, himself an alum of the venerable Ivy League institution, has generously opened up his collection to us in the past few weeks. We have selected wines from all of the world's greatest wine producing regions, as well as several more esoteric items for your bidding pleasure. What's more, we have decided to offer wines at various different price points, so that as many collectors as possible can take part in this charitable event. Everything from the usual suspects-DRC, Leroy, Leflaive, Lafite, Mouton, Cheval-to Gauby's famous Muntada and Clos Ste. Hune, bookended by Krug, Guigal, Kongsgaard and Harlan magnums.
Sold to benefit Dartmouth College
Dear wine drinkers and Dartmouth alumni,
I would like to express my deep appreciation to you, the clients of Christie's, for participating in this event and to the loyal son of Dartmouth who is donating the proceeds from this evening's auction to his alma mater.
After several decades of intense work in global health, I was honored to be appointed president of Dartmouth almost three years ago. During my early readings about Dartmouth, I was captured by the words of our 12th president, John Sloan Dickey, who said to incoming students: "the world's troubles are your troubles . . . and because the troubles of the world come from within the hearts of men, there is nothing wrong with the world that better human beings cannot fix." As a statement of the purpose of higher education, I find Dickey's words as compelling today as when he first spoke them.
Tackling the world's troubles requires unrelenting innovation and an unyielding commitment to superb teaching and the discovery of new knowledge. With our reputation for excellence in undergraduate education and graduate study in the sciences, engineering, medicine, and business, Dartmouth is well positioned to fulfill its purpose.
Today's auction demonstrates one alumnus's commitment to building a better world through his investment in the women and men we are preparing.
Sincerely,
Jim Yong Kim
President
