The top applied with a gnarled branch-form handle and painted with scrolling lotus meander reserved on a stippled ground repeated on the long sides, the ends pierced with cash motifs centering demi-florets and lingzhi at the corners, and the base freely painted in black with a bamboo spray

A similar weight, described as a "box for perfumed herbs," but decorated with smaller flowers, in the Metropolitan Museum of Art is illustrated by W.E. Cox, The Book of Pottery and Porcelain, New York, 1949, vol. II, p. 577. Another described as a "document weight" was included in the Exhibition of Chinese Arts, C.T. Loo & Co., New York, 1 November - 30 April 1942, no. 711.
