From what must have been a magnificent dinner service, including several large animal tureens, made for the Count, who collected it in Cadiz in August 1771, where it had arrived on the Astrea commanded by José de Córdoba. Hailing from a family important to Sino-Spanish trade, Juan Batista de Uztáriz seems to have been quite entrepeneurial, founding several different companies for trade with Latin America and at one point controlling the Royal Factories of Talavera de la Reina, famed for fine textiles. See R Diaz, op cit, pp 198-205.
The impressive armorial carp tureen from this service was sold Christie's, Paris, 13 June 2007, lot 279.
