Like the famous Lambert porcelain, this service helps scholars date the development of famille rose enamels in China. It was made for George Verney, the 12th Lord Willoughby de Broke, who married Mary, daughter of Sir John Heath, in 1683. Like Sir John Lambert's death, the death of Lord Willoughby de Broke (in 1728) establishes a terminus ante quem for the rose enamel.
