A German parcel-gilt silver cup and cover
Mark of Veit Koch, Breslau, 1598
On circular foot, with knopped stem supporting a slightly tapering detachable cylindrical bowl chased with three caryatides holding a flower basket within geometrical scroll-work, and chased with three bees, the slightly domed cover chased en suite, applied with a detachable finial shaped as a soldier, his shield with engraved coat-of-arms, the interior cover with a detachable coin inscribed with dedication ''PATEN GEDECHTNVS.VON.RITTERSCHAFT.VND.STADTEN.DER.GROF/''SCHAFT.GLATZ.HERRN.D .VALENTIN.FRANCKENS/''.CAROLO.DEDICIRGT.DEN 15.FEBRVARI.Ao.1598' and centred by an engraved rampant lion, all within a finely engraved band of laurel leaves, the foot is composed of two parts, not detachable but fastened, marked on base
