The chair almost certainly formed part of the famed collection of Italian antiques belonging to Luigi Orselli, whose auction conducted by American Art Galleries in March 1921 was a noted success. A fascinating New York Times review of the exhibition dated 10 February 1921 brilliantly captures the baronial taste of the day. Interestingly, it also highlights 'the most interesting section is the wrought iron..in high favor with American collectors.'
