SONG DYNASTY (960-1279)
Comprising a pair of deep conical bowls, each interior moulded with scrolling chrysanthemum on a leafy vine, the centre with a single chrysanthemum flower head, the centre of one bowl inscribed with a single character, together with a small rounded bowl with two sprays of blossoming peony against a dense leafy ground, the reverse of all with incised vertical lines radiating from the bases, covered overall with a thick crackled olive green glaze stopping above the footrims

Similar examples of various sizes with decoration of chrysanthemum are in the Qing Court Collection, illustrated in Porcelain of the Song Dynasty (I), The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum, Hong Kong, 1996, p. 123, pl. 109 (20 cm. diam.) and p. 129, pl. 115 (11 cm. diam.). Another example was sold at Christie's New York, 19 March 2001, lot 33.
