拍品专文

This is the only signed painting by Leendert van Beijeren, who is documented as having been a pupil of Rembrandt. He was probably in Rembrandt's workshop between circa 1635 and 1640. This tronie is stylistically akin to his master's self portraits and/or tronies from the later 1630s and those made by, for instance, Samuel van Hoogstraten in the 1640s. Leendert van Beijeren's picture was probably painted shortly after his stay with Rembrandt. Other works by this painter are documented in old inventories, but none other than the present lot have come to light.
