A QAJAR GOLD AND SILVER DAMASCENED STEEL SHIELD
IRAN, 19TH CENTURY
Of typical shallow domed circular form with four rounded rosette bosses, the centre with a cut-steel design based around a central star issuing cusped cartouches and joined by similar crescents all highlighted in gold-damascening, a band around with alternating ogival and circular cartouches containing silver-damascened calligraphy and bordered by minor bands of narrower cartouches with rosette designs, the reverse lined with red cotton and with four small attachment loops, some rubbing of damascening, otherwise good condition
