SECOND QUARTER 18TH CENTURY

A pair of virtually identical mirrors from the collection of the late Madame Antenor Patiño, was sold Sotheby's Paris, 22-23 September 2010, lot 264 (EUR 114,750 with premium). Interestingly, the Patiño mirrors which were hanging in the salon (see cover of the Sotheby's catalogue) were lacking their cresting, and furthermore hung upside down. Known for her decorating talents, Beatriz Patiño would probably have chosen to hang them that way in order to avoid showing the concave-sided mirror end where the cresting would originally have stood. The Patiño pair of mirrors, similarly acquired from the celebrated antiquaire Pietro Accorsi in Turin, was described as being part of the furnishings of an important north Italian Palazzo.
