THE MOVEMENT BY LOUIS FRANCOIS HERBAULT PARIS, THE CASE STAMPED ANTOINE FOULLET, CIRCA 1750
The waisted case and bracket decorated overall with ormolu C-scrolls and foliate mounts, the top surmounted by a double foliate finial, the foliate cast gilt-bronze dial inset with enamel hour chapters and minute markers surrounding the enamel centre signed Herbault A Paris, blued steel hands. The square eight-day two train movement with four back-pinned pillars, verge escapement and countwheel strike on bell above, the backplate signed Herbault A Paris 1750, the inside of the door and case with corne verte veneer and brass inlays, the case and bracket both stamped ANT. Louis-Francois Herbault, Paris, became maître in 1743, Juré 1761-89
Antoine Foullet (?-1775), maître in 1749 and working from the Rue du Faubourg St-Antoine, he was specialized in making clock-cases, like Francois Duhamel and Balthazard Lieutaud.
