Tasting note: The Potel 2006 Vosne-Romanée Les Chaumes offers bright, penetrating, bitter- and tart-edged black fruits in a rather spare, lean package. Chalk, dark chocolate, and roasted meats lend considerable sense of depth for a rather somber overall effect that lingers impressively. This is one of those paradoxical wines of the vintage, dark in tone yet with a brightness of tart fruit acids that keeps the tasters' own juices flowing and suggests that the wine will be well worth revisiting in several years, and should keep well for a half dozen or more. 90 points.
