In-4 (280 x 220 mm). 42 planches lithographiées et coloriées. (Quelques rousseurs.) Percaline verte de l'éditeur, plats ornés d'une grande plaque dorée représentant des insectes et des rinceaux, dos lisse orné de fers spéciaux, tranches dorées (mors partiellement fendus).
ÉDITION ORIGINALE, publiée en 14 livraisons. Westwood publia de nombreux ouvrages d'entomologie. Celui-ci est le seul à traiter d'espèces exotiques, grands papillons, phames et autres insectes, souvent dessinés sur des branches ou avec des fleurs; les autres ouvrages de Westwood traitaient d'espèces britanniques.
