KANGXI UNDERGLAZE-BLUE SIX-CHARACTER MARK AND OF THE PERIOD (1662-1722)
Delicately potted with flaring sides supported on a short straight-cut foot, the exterior painted and enamelled with cluster of cymbidium orchids growing from rocks, one side with a ten-character inscription, followed by the seal mark Shang (appreciation)

The current cup is representative of the 7th month of the Chinese lunar calendar, identified by the flowers used in its decoration.
The inscription reads:
Guangdian qingxiang fa, gaotai yuan chuiyin, which may be translated as 'The subtle perfume of orchids pervades the great hall as music plays on the lofty terraces'.
