PROPERTY FROM A PRIVATE COLLECTION, SAN FRANCISCO (LOT 371-383) Lots 378 and 379 were in the collections at Milton Abbey, the Dorset home of the Earls of Dorchester. Designed by the architect Sir William Chambers, Milton Abbey was built in 1744 in the Gothic style to compliment the adjacent church. The interiors remained largely original until the contents were sold on the premises by Phillips Son and Neale.

The double-domed top with urn finials above later mirrored doors opening to a fitted interior with drawers, pigeonholes and document slides, the lower case with slant lid enclosing a similarly fitted interior and writing surface, over two aligned and two graduated drawers on later leaf-carved oak bun feet, hardware replaced
