FINE BURGUNDY AND KISTLER

From the extremely rare magnums of A. Gros Richebourg to that fine Burgundian-styled wine, Kistler, this collection comes from a Burgundy lover and long time friend of Christie's.

DOMAINE ANNE GROS
Known as François Gros until Anne took over, Domaine Anne Gros has produced, according to Clive Coates, "some of the finest wines in Burgundy." We at Christie's, and this consignor, agree. The name "Gros," in Burgundy can cause quite a bit of confusion, even among the wine-initiated. Make note: Domaine Louis Gros begat Gustave and Colette (who teamed to form Domaine Gros Frère et Soeur) and Jean (of Domaine Jean Gros) and François (of Domaine François Gros). Domaine François Gros became Domaine Anne & François Gros then, in 1995, Domaine Anne Gros. Jean Gros begat Bernard (Domaine Gros Frère et Soeur), Michel (Domaine Jean Gros & Domaine Michel Gros) and Anne-Françoise Gros (Domaine A. F. Gros). Clear as mud, right? At Domaine Anne Gros, the mission is a respect for tradition, but a desire to innovate. This desire has produced world-class wines.

"Just as dark as the Clos Vougeot, but even more prodigiously concentrated, the Richebourg is among the blackest and inkiest (both in color and taste) Pinot Noirs I have tasted. Exhibiting sweet Asian spices and grilled black fruits on the nose, this behemoth is a rich, chewy, rugged, silky-textured wine packed with super-ripe, highly-concentrated ripe berries. Possessing impressive depth and structure, this wine may well deserve a higher rating when it has had time to soften out. Drink 2005-2015+." Robert Parker, Wine Advocate # 111 (Jun 1997)
