18TH CENTURY
The body crisply carved in relief with composite foliate meander bearing peony, chrysanthemum and hibiscus flowers and buds, between a band of narrow petals below and bands of ruyi heads and key fret above, from which rise upright leaves, covered allover with a crackle-suffused white glaze; with a Japanese silver openwork mount around the top of the neck and a removable silver mouth rim

A closely related soft paste vase of similar size (29.5 cm.) and decoration was inlcuded in the Salting bequest and is now in the Victoria and Albert Museum, illustrated by R. Kerr, Chinese Ceramics: Porcelain of the Qing Dynasty 1644-1911, London, 1986, p. 53, no. 29, where it is dated Qianlong.
