The well-potted body carved in relief with tree peony, chrysanthemum and asters growing from amidst a large rock formation, the details of the flowers picked out in red against the blue of the stems and leaves, the rockwork rendered in pale celadon and white slip

It is rare to find vases of this shape and decoration with Kangxi marks, as those bearing apocryphal marks are much more common. However, a related vase in the same palette, also with Kangxi six-character mark, was sold in these rooms, 21 September 2004, lot 280. Another example of Kangxi-marked wares with this decoration include a brush pot in the Shanghai Museum, illustrated in Kangxi Porcelain Wares from the Shanghai Museum Collection, Hong Kong, 1998, pp. 128-9, no. 87.
