The present lot by Pierre-Philippe Thomire (1751-1843), maître fondeur-ciseleur in 1772, is related to a candelabrum executed by the latter and now in the Grand Trianon, Versailles (ill. in H. Ottomeyer, P. Pröchel et al., Vergoldete Bronzen, Munich, 1986, vol.I, p.393, fig. 5.17.13). Amongst the related examples sold at auction, a pair was sold from The Royal House of Hanover, Schloss Marienburg, Sotheby's, 5-15 October 2005, lot 1525, whilst a further pair signed by Thomire was sold more recently at Christie's, New York, 20 May 2008, lot 370 ($73,000).
