Each circular with undulating gadrooned rim, the sides pierced with scrolls and trailing foliage, the centres engine-turned, each on wooden bases supported by four ivory wheels, each centre engraved with a coat-of-arms, each marked on foot and rim
The larger - 6½ in. (16.5 cm.) wide
The smaller - 5 in. (13 cm.) wide
The arms are those of Venables quartering Vernon as born by the Barons Vernon of Kinderton, possibly for Lt. Col. Henry Venables Vernon (1796-1845) or his younger brother the Rev. John Venables Vernon (1798-1875), rector of Nuthall and Kirkby-in-Ashfield, co. Nottingham, the sons of Henry, 3rd Baron Vernon (1747-1829) and his second wife Alice Lucy (d.1827), daughter of Sir John Whiteford, 3rd Bt., whom he married in 1795.

The crest is that of Paterson of Scotland. (5)
