The poem reads:
Jiazai yan xi zhi, ke yi pi xie xing.
Li yin wu hao jiao, fei cui chi ru ling.
Xin ping si ti zheng, wu wei yi wen jing.
Jin li zhan mo jing, xiang zi shi ci ming.
And may be translated as:
'Oh what joy it is to have this jade of such fine quality,
carved for the purpose of dispelling evil spirits.
Mounting the bow at the sound of the horn,
the arrow pierces through the bird's feathers.
With a tranquil mind comes the correct physical posture,
combining good military and intellectual skills.
