The double-edged curving watered steel blade with pronounced medial ridge and small floral and calligraphic cartouche at the forte, the waisted cylindrical hilt decorated in silver repoussé with a dense floral design, the sheath similarly decorated with panels of floral decoration between silver-wire and rope-like bands, with dragon head terminal, each of the elements with assay mark, remains of gilding

Signed by 'Attar Mustafa Nuri, under the tutelage of the master calligrapher Muhammad Shawqi (Mehmet Shevki Efendi), who was the founder of his own 'Shevki School' style of calligraphy. Mehmet Shevki Efendi is also the calligrapher who produced a Levha folio also in this sale (Lot 345).
