The flaring rim inscribed CORNELIS HOOFT AGITANDO REMEDIA REDONUNTER APTICORA 1735, above a frieze repeatedly casted with a stag hunt and scrolling acanthus above a frieze decorated with acnathus leafs alternating with reversed volutes
34 cm. high x 40.5 cm. diam.

The Latin inscription Agitando remedia redonunter apticora can be translated as Door mij te hanteren worden de medicijnen geschikter voor het gebruik (by using me the medicin will be more valuable for use).

Alewijn Crombosch is recorded working at the St. Anthoni Breestraat in Amsterdam circa 1735-1756.
A related mortar with almost identical frieze decoration is illustrated in Wittop I, p.37, ill. 15.
