The ribbed flaring rim inscribed IOHAN VLEDINCK HOER IC TOE M CCCC LXIX flanked by a coat-of-arms of a standing lion, divided by a cross and fleur-de-lys, ribbed body with shaped recatangular loop handles

Steven Butendic is recorded working from 1444-1482 and had his foundry at the Singel in Utrecht. Butendic died in 1483.
Wittop Koning attributes several mortars to Butendic.
An almost identical mortar with the inscription Johan Uledonck hoer ic toe M CCCC LXIX is illustrated in Wittop Koning II, p. 86, ill. 117.
