A LARGE MOTTLED GREYISH-WHITE AND BLACK OPAQUE JADE GROTTO
17TH/18TH CENTURY
Finely carved with a luohan seated within a grotto beside an incense burner from which rises a wisp of smoke, holding a sutra in his left hand, with pleasant countenance, wearing loose robes draped over his left shoulder and falling in pleats around his body to his sandals, with lingzhi and other plants sprouting from rocks below his feet, the reverse carved with a distant stream rushing amidst mountains and trees, the stone of greyish-white and mottled black tones with some alteration towards the base
