THE FIRST DATED 1591; THE SECOND LATE 16TH EARLY 17TH CENTURY
The first with compressed triangular horn body, the outer face decorated with neo-roman soldiers before a city landscape, involving a lady and a man devoured by dogs, the inner face engraved with strapwork and scrolling foliage and centring on three roundels, the inner roundel filled with a Roman warrior, and the sides decorated with trophies of arms and arrangements of fruit, fitted with iron base and top with rings for suspension; The second decorated with two warriors from Roman history, probably Marcus Curtius leaping the Fiery Gulf, the reverse cut with concentric roundels, and fitted with iron base, and iron top with cut-off and spring closure
