Each with dense black thuluth and/or naskh script with occasional gold and polychrome roundels and floral sprays, all laid down between gold and/or polychrome rules on marbled, gold sprinkled or cream paper, largest panel with correct attribution to Darwish 'Ali, one with possibly added signature of 'Umar al-Wasfi and date of AH 1200/1785-86 AD, another attributed to al-Sayyid 'Abdullah and one with possibly added signature of Ibrahim Dada, one panel with old repair tears, another panel with scuffing, in marble paper covers
Largest panel 12¼ x 17¾in. (31 x 45cm.)

One of these panels is signed by Darwish 'Ali the Elder (d. 1673 AD). Born in Istanbul, Darwish 'Ali practised calligraphy with Halid Erzurumi (d. 1631 AD). He became a well known master of calligraphy and many members of the Ottoman elite sent their children to him to improve their skills in calligraphy. Rado notes that the leading 17th century Grand Vizier Koprulu Fazil Ahmed Pasha was amongst his students. He passed away in Istanbul in 1673 (Rado, Turk Hattatlari (Turkish Calligraphers), Istanbul, 1980, p. 100).
