QING DYNASTY (1644-1911)
Of rectangular form, naturalistically carved as a section of bamboo with a line of nodules across one end of the gently arched surface, below a pair of birds perched on a flowering prunus branch carved in high relief, the concave reverse conforming to imitate the bamboo pith cavity, each of the internode sections decorated respectively with a bat in flight, a narcissus spray and a heron wading through waterweeds, the highly translucent stone of a blue-green tone suffused with apple-green streaks
