This wine cooler is identical to that selected in 1823 by Jean-Baptiste-Claude Odiot to be bequeathed to the French Nation with a group of pieces he considered of outstanding interest and particularly typical of his production. The model is now in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris.
The design (by Cavelier) has been used with variations for several of the table services made by J.B.C Odiot, for example for Count Demidoff (1817) and Count Branicki (1819) with various handles or types of friezes. The bronze model of the cameo decoration "au Centaure" has been made by Thomire circa 1810.
