Frederick II of Prussia (1712-1786) is noted as a skillful military leader, active Freemason, acclaimed flautist and great patron of the arts. During his reign he modernized Berlin, constructing the State Opera and Library, and built the Rococo wonder Sanssouci palace in Potsdam.
