This manuscript is a close but slightly different version of the Kharida al-'aja'ib al-kubra from the same author. A copy of that work in the John Rylands Library indicates that a governor of Aleppo, Shahin, asked the author to draw a map of the world which the copyist neglected to reproduce. Another copy of the Khara'id al-'aja'ib wa farida al-ghara'ib in the same Library has no diagrams or map which gives a specific importance to our illustrated manuscript (Catalogue of the Arabic manuscripts in the John Rylands Library, Manchester, 1934, No 317,791)
