We know that there are other versions of this composition by the artist, one of which was used as the template for a stained glass window in the Church of Our lady of Mount Carmel in Wyandotte, Michigan. Plockhorst was a pupil of Piloty and became Professor at the Weimar School of Art, Berlin.
