Painted by Swebach with a stag hunt, the central figure riding a pale-chesnut horse and carrying a hunting horn with an attendant running along beside, a pack of hounds and a lady and gentleman before them in wooded river landscape, signed SW, within gilt wood frame (minor loss to frame)
The plaque approx. 6 5/8 in. (16.8 cm.) x 9 in. (22.9 cm.), excluding frame

See the similarly decorated plaques sold in these Rooms, 31 March 2008, lots 20 and 21. Jacques-Francois-Joseph Swebach-Desfontaines (1769-1823), was a painter at Sèvres who was granted the unusual privlege of being allowed to sign his work 'Swebach' or 'Sw'. Another plaque with horses and a very similar landscape painted by Swebach was sold in these Rooms on 2 March 1992, lot 147. For a pair of plates painted by Swebach with portraits of horses, see Anette Loesch, Die Napoleonische Schenkung 1809 FranzösischesPorzellan in Dresden (Dresden, 1992), p. 27. (Swebach also worked extensively on the plates from the Egyptian Service, following engravings of the drawings of Egypt by Vivant Denon).
