JIAJING INCISED AND GILT SIX-CHARACTER MARK AND OF THE PERIOD (1522-1566)

Of prunus blossom form, raised on a short tapered foot decorated with a trellis pattern, carved to the centre with a full-faced scaly dragon supporting a Shou medallion amidst stylised clouds above turbulent and breaking waves with jagged rocks, all against a diaper-ground, the surrounding petal-shaped panels decorated with flowering camellia and prunus blossom, the exterior with lotus scrolls, the black lacquered base bearing the incised and gilt reign mark written in a vertical line
