AN ALTERED GREYISH-GREEN JADE DRAGON PENDANT
LATE EASTERN ZHOU DYNASTY, 5TH-4TH CENTURY BC
The head carved with slightly convex sides and raised border around the nose and slit mouth, with a pointed laid-back ear, comma spirals on the arched body and parallel grooves on the legs and sharply forward-curved tail, the grey-green stone now almost completely opaque and of ivory color

This well-carved pendant is almost identical to two illustrated in An Exhibition of Chinese Archaic Jades, Norton Gallery of Art, Palm Beach, Florida, 20 January - 1 March 1950, pl. LI (1 and 3). All are the same size and share the same extensive alteration.
