Chiselhampton House, Oxfordshire was built between 1766 and 1768 by Samuel Dowbiggin, Architect of London, for Charles Peers. The bust almost certainly depicts John Witherington Peers (1768-1835), Curate of St. Katherine's, Chiselhampton. In the 1950's there was a campaign to restore the church and Sir John Betjeman lent his support as well as writing a poem about the church.
