A RARE PAIR OF YELLOW-GROUND FAMILLE ROSE QUATREFOIL NARCISSUS TRAYS
TONGZHI EARLY GUANGXU PERIOD (1862-1908)

Each of quatrefoil cross-section, raised on six low feet, the exterior sides decorated with bright enamels to depict various butterflies in flight amidst wisteria and wild flowers, inscribed in iron-red below the mouth rim with the characters, Dayazhai, beside the Tian Di Yi Jia Chun sealmark, all reserved on yellow-ground, the flat rims with blue enamel keyfret band, the interior applied evenly with turquoise enamel, the base bearing an iron-red Yong Qing Chang Chun mark

The original line drawing of this four-lobed form, illustrated above a sketch of the same floral pattern, is published in Guanyang Yuci, The Forbidden City Publishing House, 2007, p. 179, no. 39 (fig. 1). According to the note accompanying the sketch, four pairs of yellow-ground and four pairs of white-ground trays of this shape and pattern were commissioned.
