After first resisting Neptune's wooing, the sea god sent dolphins after Amphitrite who coaxed her to be his bride. For a late 19th century colored example of this model, see The Collection of Dr. W.A. Criswell, Christie's, New York, 25 October 2007, lot 106. An 18th century example is in the collection of the Residenz Museum, Munich.
